David

I recall earlier versions of MapX had a bug whereby using seamless tables
over a LAN (ie off another file server) didn't work properly at all. This
caused problems on more than one project - I ended up writing code to
open/close rasters as they entered/left the screen directly, mimicking the
operation of the seamless table. This was with version 4 and (I think) 4.5.
You could try copying the rasters to your hard drive and trying again but
this probably isn't a realistic deployment option.

However I was told that more recent MapX (version 5?) had fixed this bug - I
haven't worked with it so I can't tell you if it has.

Subject: MI-L MapX raster drawing

Hi everyone,

Hope a mapX question isn't too off-topic for MI-L...

Does anyone have any tips for speeding up map redraws in mapX (I'm using
V5).

I'm developing a mapX application which uses a large seamless raster table
as background mapping (20 or so TIFF images - Ordnance Survey Internet
Street Mapping, for anyone in the UK who knows what that is).

Unfortunately, map redraws are quite slow (5-7 seconds, as opposed to
fractions of a second with the rasters switched off), even when zoomed in to
500m or so - well within one tile. A similar application using MapInfo 7 and
integrated mapping doesn't have this problem at all - I guess the map draw
processes are different.

I've tried setting the layer that's being edited to the animation layer,
which works beautifully until you have to pan the map. There's another
problem with this, as the application also modifies a second layer during
edits, and, as far as I'm aware, you can only have one animation layer.

I've also experimented with setting map.autoredraw to false too, but without
much success.

Any help gratefully received!

Many thanks in advance,

Dave.
