Unfortunately, map redraws are quite slow (5-7 seconds, as opposed to fractions of a second with the rasters switched off), even when zoomed in to 500m or so - well within one tile. A similar application using MapInfo 7 and integrated mapping doesn't have this problem at all - I guess the map draw processes are different. I've tried setting the layer that's being edited to the animation layer, which works beautifully until you have to pan the map. There's another problem with this, as the application also modifies a second layer during edits, and, as far as I'm aware, you can only have one animation layer.
