Hello Folks The problems your experiencing with your larger Oracle tables and MapInfo could be caused by MapInfo doing a row count on the table before opening it. You can stop this by adding the number of records the the RowCount column in the MapInfo_Map_Catalogue table in Oracle.
Other things which might slow your live data opening include: - Corrupt or incomplete Spatial indexs in Oracle Spatial - Connecting to a view rather than a database table It is also worth noting that the extents stored in the MapInfo_Map_Catalogue table seem to be the extents of all the data in that table rather than the extents of the perfered view of the data when it is opened (as documented by MapInfo) performance is therefore improved by njot opening live tables to new map windows but to exisitng map windows of an appropriate scale. I would be interested to hear more about the problems you mention of querying attributes as this could explain some of the problems I am having with accessing Spatial data from oracle are there any good references? Whilst on the subject of Oracle Spatial has anyone tried Oracle 10g with MapInfo 7 or 7.5 I need to find out if it works as our DBAs have to upgrade our rather large database soon if they still want tech surport from Oracle. Does MapInfo release new versions of database drivers as new versions of Oracle are released??? I hope this is useful Andrew --------------------------------------------------------------------- List hosting provided by Directions Magazine | www.directionsmag.com | To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Message number: 8911
