It doesn't look like anyone has replied to this, maybe because it's so simple, but I would hate to think that we're all thinking "the other guy" is going to answer this, so here goes.
Use the "Tools | Universal Translator" to convert ESRI Shape files into MapInfo TAB files. Or you can simply directly read the Shapefile, but MI will create its own little "translator" TAB file.
