i can't say i'm FULLY aware of what those weirdo's on the other side of the
country do... but here's the basics...
there are 3 major time zones, Western (+8), Central (+9.5), and Eastern
(+10).
Western Australia goes by Western time, however they don't "celebrate"
daylight savings, so it is GMT +8 all year round.
Northern Territory and South Australia (gee we have inventive state names)
are Central, and DO support daylight savings, which means we are currently
GMT +10.5. (i'm in adelaide, south oz)
then it gets weird, coz all the eastern states (queensland, new south wales,
victoria, tasmania, ACT) go by eastern standard time, however a couple of
them don't do daylight savings, which means you have some people in the same
time zone who are separated by an hour.
so to the best of my knowledge, there are at any time 4 different time zones
going on, possibly 5 as Tasmania is a time warp unto itself.

i thought there's no easy way to include a map in a message, then i thought
i'd google up "ascii maps"
got this map from here... http://www.mirc-rainbow.com/sher/index.htm , could
be useful.
as for daylight savings times, in my stuff i must have once looked it up, as
this years GPS data gets processed based on a variable i have called
DaylightSpendings, which appears is applicable between 26/Oct/2003 and
28/Mar/2004.
hope that helps.

Subject: MI-L what time down under?
I have made available on our site for a while a world map of time zones and
someone notified me today that if the map was basically "great", Australia
was wrong. He based his comment on the data given by
http://www.worldtimeserver.com/ that seem to indicate that there are at
least 5 different local times compared to the 3 in "my" map.
Would anyone have a simple map of the time zones for Australia with which I
could update mine? And do you have "summer" time and when would it apply?
Could the discrepancies come from summer time being in use now?
TIA
Jacques Paris
