Hi all,

I am still having trouble with a Mapbasic Application on an XP machine in a particular clients network. It works fine on other XP networks and on a 2000 machine in that network.

The program fails (Application Error) on an automated object split, but this function simply uses standard MapInfo functions to split an object with a line and then cleans up the mess of objects left behind afterwards with a suite of select statements.

I was able to replicate the problem on my machine by changing a temp directory I use in the program for some files from the system temp directory to the user home directory. I have no idea why changing the directory as the function that fails does not specifically write anything to that directory? The client was having problems when it was set to the system temp directory, but that did not cause problems on my machine.

My theory is that the application errors seem to be related to problems with file access issues on particular directories on XP when normal mappping operations are being done at super mouse control speeds. Perhaps too if those files are locked for an instant by anti-virus software. But this is only a theory.

Does anyone have documentation of what files are written where?

Looks like the temporary files that MI uses when doing selections are written to the users home directory by default for different operating systems, and I don't think I can change that.

The only temp files that I have found are the ~MAP0000.TMP files, such as are generated by a selection query? and these seem to be written to the user home directory/temp, and maybe accumulate there. Certainly they are not removed when an app error occurs.

Any leads?
