Mike
I use an editor called ultraedit www.idmcomp.com you can download a copy and
use it for 45 days. It has opened every file I've tried.
You didn't mention the OS that you are using; assuming w2k or wxp an example
would be {C:\Documents and Settings\<user acct>\Application
Data\MapInfo\MapInfo} (<user acct> is your account) will be where to find
the file named MAPINFOW.PRF using a search you may be able to copy the file
from the administrators acct or other user acct provided you're not
administrator acct and no other users.

Subject: MI-L Can't open WMF file
A colleague has produced a WMF file with Mapinfo v 6.5 which he has sent me
but I can only open it with QuickView. Mapinfo displays an instruction to
creat a file association in Control Panel, Folder Options but WMF does not
appear in the dropdown so is not available.
Also I am getting an error "Can't open preference file, using internal
defaults" when I open Mapinfo. I had this problem a long time back and
can't remember the fix - it's a corrupted file that needs reinstalling I
think but our IT helpdesk don't support Mapinfo so I'd be grateful for any
help
Thanks
