I finally found out why my XP Search Assistant wouldn't search
for text within MapBasic (*.mb) files. It took FAR too much time
to discover it too, and the answer is a doozy!
They don't tell you this, but the S.A. will only search certain
types of files. If you tell it to search *.mb files for text, it
just comes back with "Sorry, nothing found." leaving out the
all-import fact, "...because I can't search within *.mb files."
To correct this, you have to patch your registry and tell XP that
*.mb files are text files. Using a text editor, copy the
following 5 lines (including the last blank line):
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.MB\PersistentHandler]
@="{5e941d80-bf96-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}"
and save it in a file called Patch.reg. Then double click on this
reg file, and the next time you reboot, you should be able to
search for text within *.mb files. Anyway, this worked for me.
IMHO, this lousy XP O/S spends far too many resources animating
the idiot puppy (one wonders where it goes when it has to
squat...) and far too little on making error messages that tell
what's actually gone wrong and how to fix it!! Arrg!
