The other feature I failed to mention was that a mouse wheel movement
alone zooms in or out (but I assumed everyone knew that). I get a
doubling or halving of zoom with each "click" of the mouse wheel.
To pan, you've got to hold down the ctrl key when you mouse wheel. And
keep hold until the map has stopped moving because, as soon as you let
go of the key, the remaining wheel movements "linger on" and you get the
zoom effect.
Since the message from Alicia, I tried pressing the mouse wheel and, if
you then just move the mouse without click, this allows you to pan in
all directions. Trouble is I start playing at being a pigeon, following
the main roads on my map! {bg}

That is odd, for me hitting Control + Rolling the Wheel zooms in
(double) and out (half) of a map when in a map window.
I have to do a click on the wheel then roll the ball of trackball (or
move mouse) to move around like the grabber tool.
Guess it depends upon what you are using. But I fully agree that it is
a very useful thing to have in MapInfo.
