MI-L MI-L: Endless loop while executing select statement?

After running a MapBasic application (which hat to be killed finally) 
MapInfo pro 7.5 seems to be in an endless loop while processing a select 
statement showing only the hour glass using 90% of CPU (running Windows XP).

Restarting does not help. Even reinstallation does not seem to be helpful.

Did anybody have the same experience? What can be done?

Any help is appreciated!
