When I enabled the relief shading for an elevation grid (via Map > Modify Thematic Layer > Styles), the size of the MIG file rised from 50 to 280(!) MB. So I turned the shading off and closed the map window, but the size remains that huge. Furthermore: after closing the table and reopening it the shading is on again! Repeated it several times with no luck. I even edited the TAB file and removed the folowing metadata sentences:

"\Relief Shading" = ""
"\Relief Shading\Horizontal Angle" = "135"
"\Relief Shading\Vertical Angle" = "45"
"\Relief Shading\Vertical Scale Factor" = "50"

No help...

The same happens with USGS DEM files, except that the DEM file does not rise in size, but a new (huge) file MIH is created.
The only solution is to remove the shading temporarily by issuing "Set Map Layer 1 Relief Off" in the mapbasic window, but this is not what I am searching for - I want my 230 MB back!

Any help?

P.S.
In the TAB file there is a sentence "RasterStyle 6 1", removing which makes MIG unreadable by MapInfo. What is the meaning of the RasterStyle clause?
