Hi Philip!

I'm guessing that your workspaces use custom labels, i e where the user
has dragged or altered the label for cartographic purposes.
The backside of this is that such adjusted labels reference the RowID of
their mother object, not any other identifying feature of the object, and
that this info is stored in the workspace only. There are pros and cons
for this practice, I will not go in to details here.

Now, if the base table is updated and items added or removed, the new
rowids may reference completely different objects and there is not a thing
you can do about it. Major PIA, I agree, but that's the way it is.
Another common reason for label confusion is when items are removed and
the table packed. This also messes up the RowIDs.

Workaround: Never depend on custom labels, use them only as they come out
of the tool. Meaning that you will have to live with overlapping labels I
guess.
OR Make sure that the base table never gets reordered, either by
recreation or by packing, and if this eventually becomes necessary, be
prepared to rearrange all custom labels afterwards.

Hlsning / Best regards Mats.E

MI-L Labels Moving improperly

Group,

I was wondering if this has happened to any of you. We use MapInfo 7.5.
We have 7 users running on a server. We use 1 main point file with over
1600 retail center locations. 3 months ago, I updated the point file,
without asking all users to get out of MapInfo. 2 days later, in many
but,
not all workspaces, a retail center label from San Francisco would show up
in the Chicago workspace (Map View) and other locations throughout
America.
So, I thought that it was being corrupted because users were in MapInfo at
the time of changes being made to the layer.

I've since updated the point layer at night when no users are accessing
MapInfo. Still, workspaces I just created 5 days ago have the messed up
labels.

All of the workspaces were saved from templates that have been created
that
contains all of the U.S. Any suggestions on a cure or reasons this is
happening?
