Hi Bill, If you have an old copy of 4.5 lying around then it does these operations about 10 times faster.
The downside is that you data needs to be clean. I could be wrong but I think the object processing was changed in version 5.5 to handle bad data better, but had the effect of slowing it down tremendously.
