Hi Jake, I've found that when importing shape files it's very important to do so in the same projection the file originally came in. I know when I've imported it automatically goes to default of Lat and Long, however most of the shape files I'm using are in a NAD 83 BC Albers projection. I'm using MapInfo 7.8 so hope this is of some help.
