I'm running MapInfo 7.8 on a 64 bit laptop with no problems other than the standard MapInfo or 64-bit issues. OS is Win-XP Pro SP2 - that seemed to make a huge difference in the amount of crashes I was getting in windows. Heat has definitely been an issue with both the laptop and the server - make sure that issue is addressed. I did melt parts of the motherboard processing some of the landsat imagery when I first got the laptop - that was a bit of a problem. While I have not done any true benchmarking on the system, the time to process files seems to be faster than on our standard P4 workstations. We are also running a 64 bit server using Server 2003 without issue, however MapInfo is not loaded on that machine.
