Thanks for getting back to me .

I've been doing this, but I really need to define a specific angle: To
represent, say, a storm that hits the coast and travels at a 120 degree
angle. When I rotate the ellipse the defined radius and length change so
I have to fiddle with stretching and rotating. I was hoping there was
something out there that would allow me to specify an angle and a width
and depth.

I guess I'll keep fiddling.

In MI/MB an ellipse is strictly horizontal/vertical and cannot be
rotated. To rotate one, create it then convert it into a polyline.
Before, make sure that the resolution is defined high enough to satisfy
you (resolution here is the number of nodes that the created polyline
will have). You can then use the rotator mbx or any equivalent tool to
rotate your ellipsoidal polyline.

Subject: MI-L Create an ellipse at a specific angle and width and depth

Hi all,

I looked at Directions for a tool to do this, and could not find one. I
am hoping someone here can help me.

I need to create ellipses with a specific angle with a given width and
depth. I know that I can rotate ellipses, but the measurements get
distorted and it is taking me a long time to modify the rotated ellipses
to meet my specifications. I need such exact measurements as I am
simulating hurricanes that hit the US coast. The ellipses represent
bands of damage, and the width and depth change based on wind speed and
forward speed of the storm, and since not all storms hit at exactly 90
or 180 degrees, I need to change the elliptical angle.

I have MapBasic, but am only just learning to use it, so anything I can
do through the mapbasic window would be preferable (though a tool would
be best!)

Thanks.
