Robert,

For a font to be seen by Mapinfo (etal) as a symbol, the font character set
must be tagged as "symbol" by the foundary which it was built or edited by.
So, to use a particular font as a map symbol, you'd have to edit the font
file itself changing its character set to "symbol", then re-compile or
re-build the font.

What is the difference between a true type font that can be used for point
symbols and one that can't. I installed a few fonts (ttf) by placing them
in the fonts directory, and while I can use them for text, they dont
appear as options for points.

In ultraedit, both the mapinfo fonts available for points and the new
fonts show up as TT.

What is the trigger that distinguishes them. I'm using XP.
