Hi,

This is my first foray into this group as I'm fairly new to mapinfo, and now
totally stuck, so I'm hoping that someone can help me.

I'm trying to calculate the distance of a number of points on a grid to the
closest polyline that I have digitised onto my map. These are 2 separate
tables.

What I have done so far, is to create a grid with squares of 50m x 50m. I
now want to get mapinfo to calculate the nearest distance of each grid
square (doesn't really matter if it's from the center of edge/corner of a
square, as long as they're all the same) to the nearest point of a set of
polylines.

I've tried doing this with the distance calculator, but it returns results
that just aren't possible (ie my grid is 300m long, and it tries to tell me
that some distances are 1,300m!). I also tried it with distance SQL query
but the result that comes back doesn't have any info in it at all, it just
seems to highlight a few random cells of the grid.

All very confusing. Can anyone out there help? Please!
