Thanks to all who have responded with helpful advice to date - Phil Waight, Vinesh Govind, Peter Horsboll Moller, Julian Parker and Laure Dessemontet.
Unfortunately all of your tips are not working. In a nutshell: 1) My TAB files have not changed 2) Choosing a different Windows default printer does not work 3) Taking the printer settings out of a workspace does not work 4) Disabling "Load Printer Settings" under "Preferences" does not work 5) No raster images are present in the workspaces I am trying to open. Phil Waight suggested using a workspace "step execute" program whicgh I realised my Discover 7.0 contains. I ran it, loading various workspaces step-by-step and the system always hangs when it comes to a "Generate or Populate Layout Window" command (Create Rect statement or Layout Position statement). I have also now tried running a Scaled Output from Discover and the program also hangs when it comes time to draw the Layout Window. Thinking back, the only software I installed this week (workspaces worked fine last week) were: 1) Google Earth update 2) MapInfo Google Earth Link Utility (no uninstalled, but still no difference to workspace opening) 3) Norton AntiVirus installed a "Sober worm" protection patch 4) Windows installed an automatic patch update. Pounds to Peanuts says that something has been installed which is causing these problems, even though I run Norton Internet Security, with auto-updates enabled. I'll probably wait until the weekend as I have now setup a laptop that I can use in the interim, (and I may get some more ideas to trial) but I'm afraid my finger may have to hit the "Format C:" button!
