Hi all,

Happy new year for those who work on the same calendar.

I am trying to do create a set of waypoints with estimated time of arrival
to a known location. This will be then be used to update Estimated time of
arrival for a truck fleet that is being tracked by GPS.

A waypoint at every intersection of the network would be enough. It only
has to be done once to create the map of waypoints and this will then be
used in real time, viz. network analysis is NOT needed in real time.

I have a reasonably accurate road layer that has a classification that could
be used to attribute speeds onto it. We're working in regional Australia,
so most of the roads are just 100 k/hr.

Interestingly, I tried a couple of the internet route selectors in Australia
to see it I could use them to script the queries, and found that WHEREIS,
which is the largest venture here was way off in its calculations, where as
another simple one travelmate that seemed to work quite well for major towns
only.

Of course, I tried to write my own mapbasic program that followed roads out
and calculated distances and eta, but while it initially looked good, it
failed when you could get to a location via a few different routes (progress
along a road was done in intersections rather than time - perhaps that is
the key).

I could probably get around that one as well, although I'd suspect that my
logic would keep it going around in circles. Perhaps I could get there, but
perhaps someone already has.

Anyway, if anyone can offer solutions or suggestions. I would like (in
order of preference) a mapbasic program to modify, a program to use (free or
otherwise) that I could use to analyse our own roads layer, a commercial
bureau service.

Thanks

R
