I'd like to pass on a thousand congratulations to Peter Horsbøll Møller!

As some of you may recall, two months ago I asked for help regarding the
fact that MapInfo would suddenly no longer open workspaces that contained a
Layout Window (it got to the point of opening the Layout Window and hung),
and if I tried to edit a layer, MapInfo hung.

I was at my wits end, and after several helpful replies from others, decided
that the only way to fix the problem was to reformat the hard drive and
re-install everything. Luckily however, I did not do it, and then went on
vacation for six weeks. Upon my return (and unpteen MapInfo-L messages in
the Inbox!) I noticed a reply Peter gave to Dewen Hou regarding MapInfo
hanging under different circumstances (Post attached below).

I thus went into my C:\Documents and Settings\William Donaldson\Local
Settings\Temp\ subdirectory and found the following temp files:
~Map0000.tmp to ~Map9999.tmp inclusive, a total of 10,000 temp files (a
result of two years worth of work on the computer)!

So I deleted all of them and presto, MapInfo is working perfectly! So many
thanks again Peter!

As an aside, MapInfo Corp may want to look into some sort of routine to
automatically delete these temp files so the problem doesn't happen to
others (unless there is a method already that I don't know about).

The list is great ... all the best to everyone for 2006.

Bill Donaldson
