HI, a curious problem i have only just noticed after
more than a decade of tinkering...
I have a set of uk and offshore-wide geology data. Ostensibly in Brit Nat
Grid projection. and originally in Shape format. If i convert the shape
file to mapinfo files in Brit Nat Grid, LL(WGS84) and UTMZone31 projections via
FME I get three tab files with upto 100m displacement between them...If i just
convert the shape file to BNG and then use Mi to save-as LL(WGS84) and UTMz31
(with new projections) the data all open with very little
displacement....opened individually, allthree layers appear to report correct
coords.........incidentally, test FME exports of a tab file to shape files (each
with the three projections ) are displacement-free in arc gis...
Any offers on what might be happening?....its the first time i have seen
such differing output from FME.
My esri-phile colleagues simply say its just mapinfo being a 'bit duff'
with on the fly projections, but i think there is an issue with how FME(and the
UT) is parsing the shapefile...
