Michael,
Have
you tried MsAccess From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 09 August, 2006 9:56 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [MI-L] Off-topic: statistical analysis software G’day, Apologies for being
slightly off-topic. I’d like a recommendations of a free, basic,
statistical analysis software package. I’ve Googled “free
stats software” and found quite a few sites that list multiple candidate
packages (and I’m looking at a few of them) but I thought it would be useful to
get the opinion of people that might be using something good, and using it with
MapInfo. This is for situations when the number of records exceeds the
capabilities of Excel. As an example of the
type of very basic descriptive stats I want to do, I have a table that results
from a positional change-detection query in MapInfo that has resulted in a table
with about 150 thousand records that shows how much an address point has moved
between two releases of an address database. The distances vary between
sub-millimetre to several hundred kilometres. One of the first things I
want to do is create a range of bin sizes. For a select few of these
I may want to produce a histogram or two, or a box
plot. I’m not looking for an
integrated solution. This would only be used for ad hoc data exploration, not as
part of an application, If you’ve use a bit of
stats software that sound like what I’m talking about, then I’d like to here
about it. Meanwhile, I’ll get
back to reading the “R” manuals. Regards Michael Michael
