Hello Arne,

As others have said, the issue is due to the difference in structure between
MapInfo and Autocad.

If you're willing to get a commercial translation product, our FME lets you
deal with this quite easily - basically you just have to set up a translation
from MapInfo to AutoCAD (DWG or DXF), and then EITHER have the translator make
3d features out of all your input on the way by (where every vertex gets set to
the same z), or send 2d features out to AutoCAD and set the "elevation"
property on the output AutoCAD feature (much more efficient in terms of output
file size).

Dear listers,

Does anyone know why the z-values disappear when exporting a
topographic contour map from MapInfo to DXF? I have used the universal
translator and exported to various autocad versions, and ticked the
box keeping the attribute data. But I always loose the z-values,
actually I loose all other infomation. That is, all extra data is
lost, and I am left with just lines in x and y space, NOT in x, y, z
space with alll colours and other attributes!
Can anybody please help solve this?

Cheers,

Arne
