Hi Tom!

Often quoted is
MapBasic Developers Guide, Paperback: 350 pages
Publisher: OnWord Press,U.S. (Nov 1996)
Language English ISBN: 1566901138

I have not seen this book and it's ten years old, so I would hesitate to pay £45 for that.
Second opinions are welcome.

But I assume you have MapBasic?
The most common operations are well exemplified and documented in the code samples. That's a good resource for learning.

Another way is to use the recorded code in the MapBasic window in MI Pro as code samples. Most GUI operations are recorded in the MapBasic window.
It can also be used (with some limitations) to test code snippets.

And look in workspace files. They can nearly always be used as code samples for simple operations.

This list and its archive has a lot of good tips and suggestions.

A long time ago, a guy named Kevin Mahoney published a set of MapInfo tools, the KGM toolbox, all written in MapBasic with source code.
A good source for coding examples, but I think that many things can be done differently in the current version.
But for basic coding, organisation in subs and functions and compiling and linking it's a good source of knowledge.

Hälsning / Best regards Mats.E
