Hello Don,

We've been using a HP 800 (non PS) with MI8.0 for a while now. It took a little while to find the appropriate settings before we got exactly what we wanted but we're quite satisfied. The trickiest parts are scaling patterns and transparencies (of course !!). The only thing we've never been able to do is to get proper pattern scaling of both the old patterns (the one already there in Mapinfo 5, 5.5, 6,etc...) and the new patterns (from Mapinfo 7.5 onwards if I remember well) when these two patterns are used together on the same map, and transparent...except....when they are both in Black and White (yes I know, don't ask....can't explain).
Apart from that, we're quite happy with it, printing both aerial photo and vector layer on top, either directly on the printer or using pdf file (need to find a good pdf writer though)

Not much maintenance, except that we lost the 6Go HDD last monday (after two years). And we haven't found a way to replace it yet because the hdd format seems to be non standard (it's not fat, fat32, ntfs, etc....) We've spend some hours trying to make a image of another working HP800 HDD but none of our software could handle that disk (even bite to bite copy didn't work). To top it all, HP resellers can't be bothered to replace the hdd : they replace everything : the hdd, the "formatter" as they call it (an electronic card) and the RAM....not cheap but not much choice.

Sorry.....just needed to get this off my chest !!

I suggest you look in the archive for some other advices : there's been discussion about HP800 lately (16th of june this year "AO plotter and RIP questions" and 24th of septembre "Printing transparencies")
I remember saying at the time that one of my customer had trouble with an EPSON9600. Well, after many (many many) tries and different settings, etc..., we got some result (eventually) and had to come to the conclusion that both printers (HP and Epson) are experiencing the same difficulties. There's not that many differencies (I mean when used with Mapinfo).

Good luck

Objet : [MI-L] Large Printers for MapInfo

Hi All,

We're currently using an HP 1050C and it has been giving us some problems lately.  I think it's driver related and we'll solve it eventually, however, I decided to look at some options for when it decides to "no longer co-operate".

I was looking at the HP website at their Designjet 800 series.  Has anyone used it with MapInfo?  Any opinions or advice?

Thanks in advance for any input,
