Dear Andrew,
As I mentioned before on this list, I would regard a working raster support
(especially transparent raster) as a very important feature. Only this way
vector data will show up nicely in conjunction with black and white raster
"backdrops", such as scanned, referenced topo maps.
However, (I am not affected with the bug since I haven't upgraded yet, and I
am currently not dealing with MI so much for business reasons), equally
important was the lack of performance / behaviour, when I needed to print
maps with a transparent color: The spool file size used to become
tremendously large, so that it often would not print at all and / or
printing lasted forever.
Therefore I would like to emphasize that both aspects are equally important:
the bugfix and printing/display performance. (However, since I am not the
the details a solution to all this might be difficult, what are actually the
odds? Why is it so difficult to get reasonable performance with transparent
raster images ?). I would imagine that every mapping analyst, who needs a
topographical reference for his data, would greatly appreciate any
improvement in the field of transparent raster display. Speaking of the
German market, where in the Geoscience and environmental field ESRI is
probably the major player, this could be one thing to win more market share
against the "Ake"-products.
And of course all the tools necessary for a presentable map layout:
neatlines, grid, and scalebars, should be available on the fly and dynamic
components.
Just some thoughts ...

As much as I would love to say 'today', I hope you understand that
I cannot answer your question until I know how severe this bug is.
How many MI customers does it affect, and how negative is the effect
on those customers? I also hope you agree that it would be foolish
to delay development on features anxiously awaited by many customers
in order to fix a mild inconvenience felt by a couple of customers.
So, tell me how much it hurts.
