Derek,
We have a Metadata Manager add-on for MapInfo, developed in C++.
It's one of our GAMMA Tools which you can download from our web
site http://www.gamma.ie. It has a very easy to use "windows"
interface ( not a mapbasic dialog ) and you can add whatever
keys and information you like to a table. The data is stored
in the tab file, no external files are required.
Regards,
Pat Donnelly

Subject: MI Metadata and organization
Hello-
I have a general inquiry about how folks deal with metadata, file
organization, and file update history in MapInfo. Our workload has been
increasing rapidly and so has the data and the need for more advanced
organization. I just want to get a feel for how others on the list
handle this process.
I know there are 2 metadata MBXs that utilize MI's metadata feature, but
they are not as quick and easy as my dream interface would be (note to
the authors of the MBXs: your utilities are great, just not quite what
we are looking for). The Table Manager in MI 5.0 allows for the
displaying of metadata, but you can't add to it. I've checked the list
archives and found some info on Compass and a GeoBaseMap package of
utilities (both from Australia). Anyone know about these or know if
there is anything else that allows you to easily add and view metadata
in the TAB? I'm looking for something that would not only do
traditional metadata, but also allow you to enter notes such as who made
changes, what they did, and when -- a sort of running history of the
TAB. This is something that we would do daily or several times a day
and it would be a bit tedious using the current MBXs.
The key is a quick, easy interface that is able to attach info about the
TAB and store it with the TAB. Anyone have some thoughts on this? I'd
also be interested in hearing other people's methods for organization
sans metadata.
Thanks,
Derek
