Hi

We are daily plotting A0/A1 plots from Mapinfo (4.0.2), which contains a
raster background and our tematic vector layers. The rasterbackground
are either digital 8 bit colour orthofotos or 8 bit scanned maps. The
plotters are a HP650 and a HP 755, but we are using some recently new
drivers from HP (they had a limit in their first drivers, whic made it
impossibly to plot large combined maps, you would very fast end with at
strange band in top of the plot and some distorted vector information -
conclusion: check always if there is a better driver. We don't use
Postscript because it's very slow compared to the native HP plotter
driver and there is build in problems in Post Script (a lot of the
region fills is treated as raster by the postscript driver and
Postscript don't like a large amount of vector and raster data which are
overlapping - you can easily plot a large image embedded in a postscript
page, but it's the combination of huge amount of rasterdata combined
with complex vector information which has caused problems with our
datasets)
