I don't think that AV1 runs in a 32-bit environment, but if you
can use that, it is all over the place. Maybe you don't remember,
but AV 1 was the remains of a total flop for ESRI when they first
tried to "do Windows". The first product rev. was so bad the only
thing they could do was scale it back to what worked and just
give it away. But there's still lots of places to get it now. The
USGS gives it away on their data disks (but carefully points out
that this does not mean they endorse it... (yeah, sure! All I
know is that this USGS data bias sells a lot of ArvIew 3.1s!!!))
Anyway, Just go to Google (www.google.com) and search for
"ArcView +1" (you need the plus sign because "1" is a stop word
on Google).
I have faith that MapInfo is working on a decent free viewer (I
assume that retiring Desktop this month and the new
Java-certification for MapXtreme could open a way now for this to
happen and leap past everyone with not only basic viewer you can
use on your desktop, but on your web page too... I hope so
anyway), but in the meantime if you want to get new people
started in GIS without ravishing their wallets, you have a
Hobson's choice.
