Just to follow up on Michael Branagan's comments, we use the web side of
the Lotus Notes system as well. Unfortunately, like everything else in LN
everything has to have LN developers (big $$) modify something or other to
get it working - I like the Microsoft Web server better for data and I
still see the free http server in unix as a better choice! The comment
regarding bloated is one echoed by many of my colleagues here - our IT
people love LN but many of us users would rather just have a file server
back and the use of the application we really need without having to tie
into LN.... sigh...

Lotus Notes is "the" Policy office at the USEPA. The IS people promote
it for email and databases. The general feeling amoung the users is that
it is bloated, problematic and requires a large number of staff to setup
and maintain. Matter of Fact, its so enormous that that one program
basically determined the minimum platform configuration for all machines.
Personally, I would suggest FileMaker Pro. While not as fast as FoxPro,
its easy to use and webpublishing is instant. And the Server version
permits data sharing over the web. It has recently been re-written and
will be released as version 5.0 in May.
