Some of you may be interested in our high
quality-low cost digitising service which we have had operating now for some six
months.
We use 3 operators who do the digitising and
attributing work on screen in MapInfo, using scans of the maps that have been
emailed to us either by the client or their scanning bureau. The types of jobs
done to date include various types of topography, geology and regolith\soil
maps. Because of my geological background we have focused on the Mining and
Exploration Industries. We are now keen to expand this service.
We charge AUS$15 per hour (~US$9.00 ) for
this type of work and can we operate 24 hrs a day as required.
Maps that consist of linework or points with labels or values
can be scanned and saved as CCITT images (i.e. a 2 bit raster format) which
makes the files quite small (AO around 1 to 2 meg A1 0.5 meg) and easy to work
with and quick to email. If the job is urgent you can email the scan to us
and when the job is completed we will email you a fully attributed MapInfo file.
In the case of small jobs (say less that 10 hours work) we can have the finished
product back to you the next day.
With maps that require a colour image there are various
options, we generally find that a 200 dpi scan is adequate and if the file is to
be emailed it can be saved as a jpg image (A3 generally 1 to 2 meg with out too
much compression). We can scan up to A3 colour, but for larger formats such as
A0, we can arrange to have the maps scanned for you if required.
We are going to considerable trouble to
ensure that our operators focus on producing a high quality product, and our aim
is to develop a reputation that relates as much to high standards of accuracy
and low error rates as to being low cost.
