GORE PROPOSES $10 BILLION TO SLOW SPRAWL. Washington Post, 11 Jan. 1999. Vice President Al Gore announced a proposal to help communities preserve green space, reduce traffic, protect water quality, and clean up abandoned industrial sites. The proposal, to be funded with $10 billion in bonds, will be in the year 2000 budget. The actual cost of the program over the first five years is about $700 million, no other estimates were available. The bonds are proposed to also create or restore parks, buy easements to protect wetlands, plant buffer strips, and to clean up industrial sites so these sites could be used again by industry. There has got to be some use for MapInfo technololgy in there somewhere.
