Hmmm... let me qualify what I mean by "robust". It would be misleading of me to
suggest that TM is robust in the sense of UI. It ain't. It runs from command
line or programmatic control. It has a huge set of command line options. It
will get a good UI sooner or later. If it has one now, and I missed it, my
apologies.
I see it as a tool best kept tucked up close to the database engine, fired up by
programmatic commands. TM's greatest strength, IMO, is in it's comprehensive
and efficient algorithm implementations. Very solid. Way more "GIS"-y than
MI-Pro is typically perceived, which may help explain why it hasn't been folded
into the product lineup more smoothly.
As for error reporting, the user has a bit of control over which types of things
should get EAFs (Edit Attention Flags) for manual attention, and/or how many
times to loop back through the sticky bits, or when to quit. Someone who does
more work with topology than I do (not difficult) will have more to say about
that.
A tricky part of TMs behavior is that it may deem an object's topology
illegitimate and just skip it. Fortunately, TM keeps a pretty open mind on the
subject.
As for having it in MI Pro: I think TM has informed the object editing commands
in MI 5.x to the extent of seeing less of "object too complex", etc. Otherwise,
I imagine it will remain separate, or MI would become a full blown GI$.
