Hi Simon,

A few tips:
Make sure that you have the administrative rights to the table in Access
(ie. is a System.mdw file used to secure the dbase, if so, what password are
you using? Does the user have sufficient rights for the table?).
If in NT, make sure you have the admin rights to read and write to the
dbase.

Recommend that you use the Access 97 ODBC driver supplied with Mapinfo.

You need to set up the database alias in Control Panel>ODBC and reference
this alias.

Try creating a new table in the dbase. Can you see this table and its
fields? If so, the problem could relate to ownership of the table within
Access.

Is the database local or on a network? Do you have access rights?

Can you open the Access table using a direct link rather than ODBC? (from
memory, Use file>open, change file type to Access, select the dbase - I
can't check this at the moment so I could be wrong!)

Hope this helps,

Pete, Ordnance Survey, UK.

Subject: MI MapInfo 4.5 and Access 97; Problems opening ODBC table.
Date: Thursday 28 January 1999 2:10

Greetings fellow MapInfo fans,

When attempting to open an ODBC table (Access 97 table) I have
encountered the following problem..
First I will briefly run through the procedure I go through to open the
table....
I select the appropriate File Data Source in the Select Data Source
dialogue box (as illustrated
below): MS Access 97 Database (not sharable).dsn and click okay
 <<...>>
Then I select the database and I am greeted with this reassuring list of
the tables in the database.. So far so good. (below)
 <<...>>

But then, when I select the table I want to open I get this box (see
below), indicating there are no fields to choose from.
 <<...>>

This is not the case; as when I go back and check the table in question,
via Access, I find that the table has all of the several fields that
have not been detected in the above dialogue box.

Any explanations on why this will happen or any tips to solve the
problem would be most appreciated.
