Keep you tiles small, 500 x 500 pixels. Also you will want to layer them.
Create three to four raster layers at increasingly higher resolutions. Each
layer should be three to four times higher res than its predecessor (i.e.
Layer 1 = 1 meter, Layer 2 = 3 meter, Layer 3 = 9 meter, and Layer 4 = 27
meter). Layering will increase your display time.

I don't think that MI handles geotifs yet, but there are utilities that
should help you out.

As far as pitfalls, if your product is going to be sold to realtors, as it
the home type, it had better be extremely cheap, run like greased lightning
on a 386 and be simple enough for a lobotomized platypus to use. Not
exactly the best group of folks to market high tech software to. On the
other hand, the market is wide open and ready to be picked. I am pretty
impressed with some of the online residential real estate sites. You might
want to look those over.

Good luck,

**Clarify the Question

<< File: Matt Fowler.vcf >> I have had several replies
-thanks everyone- that have mainly suggested
products like MrSID and Horizon. These products are
excellent in pushing
large raster files through the Internet however they do not
allow the images
to be integrated into an existing MapX geoset. The real
power of our
application is that it packages all of the spatial data that
a REALTOR might
be able to use on the same map.

For example, I have created several vector layers which are
available with a
radio button selection like: an 8 county seamless contour
map derived from
USGS DEMs, a school zone boundary map, a "sales area map"
and a Standard
Flood Hazard Area Map. What I want to do is add certain
raster layers
within the same app. so what I need to know is:

How large should the tiles be?
Will geotifs work or will I have to register each panel :( ?
Any pitfalls I am likely to experience?

Thanks again for the assistance and I will of course post to
the list the
results of my findings after all the data is compiled.

                Quick answer = Not personally

Before you go any further check out
http://www.lizardtech.com, their
product called MrSID is an image compression tool which was
tailor made to
prepare data for this type work, it is still young but
having looked at the
type of work you mention there is a lot to do and rather
than retread your
steps later which I think will be inevitable, see if you can
incorporate
this now. There are some links to splendid web sites
acheiving this
internet data service although I usually use the ISDN at the
office to
check this stuff I am sure it will still be efficient at
56kps. By typing
MrSID into any decent search engine brings up more links to
sites
