I've got 3.17 Gigs of color 3 meter DOQQ aerial photos of Florida on my server.
I have the routines for loading the rasters behind any vector data as an option
off the MapInfo menu bar. It first checks to see that the zoom level is not too
large before even loading anything. It's not fast (16mbps switched token ring
network), but it's worth it when you need it.

For the data I got from www.labins.org, the registration information in the
files were worthless, in my opinion. May be a problem with MapInfo or the
program that the generated the registration files. They were close, but not
nearly close enough.
