I have long standing complaints/wishes about the toolpads/toolbars behaviour
control. Mainly the fragility of the settings when toolpads are docked as
toolbars (a click not exactly on an icone can "reorganize" the setup) and
the lack of docking spaces other than the window top (I like left side
docking to keep a more squarish working area, mainly when using smaller
monitors).
I have added a new one, quite by accident. I had tried to use MICAD when it
was first released and did not go far because I could not find its toolpad;
I did mention that to the authors, but got no answer. Seeing a new version
on the mapinfo-l ftp site, I unloaded it and got exactly the same (lack of)
results. I fiddled with it until I realized that because my toolpads were
docked, the new pad (in fact the altered drawing pad) was not displayed
because of its size. When undocked (using options|toolbar... , or undocking
the drawing pad before launching MICAD), the full pad was accessible.
To be noted: that pad can be docked again even if it extends beyong MI
window frame. The restriction would then apply to the MB handling of docked
pads.
And that is my new wish : that MI/MB can either undock a toolbar that it
cannot display in full because of its size, or that it can display a docked
toolbar on several "lines" to fit its size.
That wish does not preclude another : that the author of MICAD should have
used the FLOAT option in its ALTER (or CREATE) BUTTON PAD statement and the
problem could have been prevented. But was he only aware of that MI/MB
behaviour?
