GIS in Local Government.
If you could take a couple of minutes and jot down a few notes it would be
much appreciated.
I am interested in finding other people who have or are going to implement
GIS in local (council/shire/municipal/town/county/borough) government. I am
particularly interested in Australia but I would like to hear from people
elsewhere.
Has the implementation/integration of GIS and spatial data become important
to your government?
How is it being used?
Is it integrated with a central property register? Can most staff access
it?
Is it being used for town planning or spatial asset management?
Is it being used for environmental monitoring?
Do you use digital elevation models (DEM's) or topographic contours to
understand the land form, visual aspects or drainage flow?
Do you use aerial photography or satellite imagery as backdrops to monitor
land use or temporal change? How else do you use the imagery?.
How much digital spatial related data are you storing? How is it being
backed up?
Do staff or local land/property owners have Web/Internet access to some of
the data?
Thanks for your time it is much appreciated.
