Thanks for the responses I've had to my original post. When I've had chance
to go through them all, I'll post a summary.

Some of you pointed out that the paper manuals, or tech. support would tell
me what I wanted to know. Well, as I think I mentioned, this is an academic
exercise for me, part of my masters dissertation. I'm using an evaluation
copy (v5.5) of MapInfo downloaded from their web site, and so I don't have
any paper manuals, and probably don't qualify for tech support. Also, I
don't have any support available to me via my workplace, where ArcView is
the product used.

I have read the online help - trouble is some of the menu options it refers
don't seem to be available on my copy - there is no 'Open ODBC Table'
option, but there is an 'Open DBMS table'. Also, when I opened an Access
table directly, using the interface (and as I thought ODBC) the ODBC
'refresh' option isn't visible anywhere as far as I can tell.

So, if anyone can provide the details I asked for - particularly in relation
to DDE and OLE,- I would be extremely grateful, and all help will be
properly acknowledged.

Thanks again for all the help I have had so far relating to ODBC, and please
let me have some help with DDE and ODBC if you can.

Sharon
