Hi Piebe,
You could try using an animation layer for this - you would need to use
Mapbasic. This is a special layer type with a quick redraw for that layer
only. I have yet to try this out!
eg.
open table "My_layer" interactive
Add map layer My_layer animate
Hope this helps!

Does anybody know if it is possible to let mapinfo redraw a window without
first clearing it?
I try to show the evolution of a certain map over time. Thus each timestep
the data in the table is changed and mapinfo redraws the window. Everything
works fine except that I am looking to a white window for 80% of the time.
It would be nice if mapinfo could just draw the map over the old one instead
of first making the window white. Anybody?
Piebe
