Hello Listers,

When I double click in my Layout Window I get a Scale on paper : 1cm =
0.40km (1:400,000) which is what I want
However, in Map -> Change View in my Map Window the Scale is 1mm = 0.3551
km
I am about to make some changes to text (set the standards so to speak!)
and need to view my map window at an exact scale.
On page 245 of Ian Johnson's excellent book "Understanding MapInfo - a
structured guide" he says you should set your screen size under Options ->
Preferences->System Settings-> Aspect Ratio Adjustment to ensure the
correct scale readout.
When I checked this box two values appeared in the width and height boxes
which bear no relation to the size of image on my monitor screen. If I
change these values to those measured with a ruler from the screen, the map
scale readout changes but still does not agree with that from the Layout
window.
Please can someone tell me how to make the two scale readouts the same or
is this never going to happen because the two values are calculated from
different things - in which case should I still go ahead and set my text
standards at an exact map window scale and then worry about the printed
form later?
Thanks in advance....

Dawn
