The Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG) is holding CIMEE3, the Third
Computers in Mining, Exploration and the Environment Symposium at the
Parkroyal Hotel, Brisbane on October 15.

The symposium is the third in this popular series that have highlighted new
developments in the application of computer hardware and software in
geoscientific applications, spanning all fields in which geologists and
geophysicists are engaged. A key feature of these symposia has been the
participation of geoscientists from both within and outside the mining
industry, reflecting AIGs diverse membership base, which has promoted
cross-fertilisation of ideas and the innovative application of computing
technologies.

The theme of CIMEE3 is intended to highlight the rapid advances of the past
two years in the fields of data management and communication, especially
with the Internet being increasingly used to obtain a wide range of
geoscientific information, or as a means of maintaining effective
communications between members of project teams working at different
locations.

An exhibition will be held in conjunction with the symposium, providing
computer hardware, software and communications companies to showcase
products of interest to geoscientists employed in mining and other
industries.

Papers and poster presentations are invited on any aspect of the use of
computers in geosciences consistent with the symposium's theme. Abstracts
should be submitted by 1st July 1999, and final papers by 1 September 1999.
All papers will be considered for publication in AIG Journal, AIG's new
technical publication covering applied geoscientific practice in Australia.

Further informationn regarding the symposium is available from the
Queensland Branch of AIG - contact Harvey Ryan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) or
AIG's web site (www.aig.asn.au).

AIG is a non-profit professional association representing geoscientists
employed in all aspects of industry, government and education throughout
Australia. Further information regarding the Institute is also available
from our web site www.aig.asn.au.
