For those of you who would like to down sample 24 bit image to 8 bit
images should take a look at a product called "FAST EDDIE" available at
http:\\www.lizardtech.com (the makers of MrSid). This shareware ($25US)
will turn a colour 24 bit image into a 8 bit image without lost of
quality thus enabling the use of your postscript driver via MapInfo
(without the dithering effect). I'm presently testing the demo version
on aerial photography and it performs 3:1 compressing and seems to
maintains image quality. I have not run a plot yet - so the assumption
that it will not dither your raster image using a postscript driver
might be premature -.
