MI MapPoint 2000?

Can anybody give me a brief overview of what MapPoint 2000 is?  Is it the MicroSoft mapping product?  Is it a lower-end mapping software that lacks the higher-end capabilities of MapInfo?  Thanks in advance for any responses.
