Randy,  MapPoint is Microsoft's most recent desktop mapping product. For a
very low price you get an excellent street level dataset of the US. You
won't be able to do alot of sophisticated spatial analysis with it but you
will be able to produce nice looking, simple maps and output them in html
format or integrat them within other MS Office app's.

We conducted a brief review of MapPoint not too long ago. You can find it
