I am trying to label symbols I have on my map. For example, I have a
point in a lat/lon format that indicates where a cemetery is. Using
point_symbolizer I can get the symbol where the cemetery is. However, I
also want to label the cemetery. But since the location is a point, the
label winds up under the symbol I have drawn.

I thought of using a shield_symbolize, but that puts the label through
the middle of the symbol which obscures the symbols.

In other words, if you look at the top image at mapnik.org, assuming the
'P' symbols are points, how could you label the symbols so they symbol
and the label are readable?

Or looking at openstreetmap at
http://openstreetmap.com/?lat=44.97817&lon=-93.26898&zoom=16&layers=B0FT

How do you define the settings to get the labels above the red dots?

Thanks in advance

- Brian
