Haven't done it myself, but I just know that what you describe would be ... laborious and painful. Importing the whole planet can take anywhere from some 12 hours or so to over a week, depending on your machine specs. Plenty of memory is key. You'd need 12+ GB to make the import go smoothly. Then the case of rendering all tiles. Why? Did you happen to find an actual and real use case for this? Most of us do on-demand rendering, with the option of prerendering only the lower zoom levels after the import.
