I would recommend that you use the data from Openstreetmaps.org If you
follow their wiki instructions for setting up mapnik, you will be 75%
there. The default style file will probably need hacking as it is
currently setup for rendering tiles for a slipy map. Only very basic
Python and XML hacking is required to do some varied stuff.
