 Just finished AV Advanced class.

I think the greatest advantage Mapt. has is in the editing
or building of coverages(Data Sets, Layers). I have digitized complete
county parcel maps and it is so easy with the tools in Mapt. All the
stop editing, save edits, pull down correct tool, etc is time consuming
and agitates me.

Now there are so many extensions that help with spatial analysis,
and modeling that AV has the advantage there; not out of the box but with
the extensions.

So my feelings are if you need to create data sets Mapt. is the way to go; with
the
book and tutorials a normal person can to wonders with the program. Also,
training
the non GIS casual user is easy.

If you are using data already created, get the training, do a lot of analysis &
modeling,
are a GIS type person, and require nice hard copy presentations then AV may
have the advantage.

My thoughts; for what it's worth.
